Description
Pasadena, L.A.
Built in 1927, architects Arthur Brown Jr., John Bakewell Jr.
Mediteranian Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival styles.
This building is about 3 blocks from Duncan Studio. It has a park in the middle of it and is a bit of a sanctuary within the city.
The exterior was used as the City Hall for the "Parks and Rectreation" tv series.
About 15 years ago they shut down City Hall for 2-3 years. They dug a moat around the full building, and then dug under the building to install a "spring" system on it's foundation. This was done to preserve the building in case a major earthquake occurs at a cost of $120 millon. The Library, a block to the west of City Hall, is going through a similar process. Pasadena has great respect for it's architectural heritage. The rarely let a modern "skyscraper" to be build in the area.
